Whale Viewing

South Africa’s beautiful coastline  and sandy beaches do not only attract sun lovers and water sports enthusiasts from all over the world, but also the  Southern Right and Humpback Whale.  The warmer inshore waters off South Africa's coast is their meeting place where they mate and calve their young. Peak whale sighting season is from July to December. Whales can be easily spotted from Cape Town’s shores and at the quaint town of Hermanus; one of the best land based whale viewing sites in the world!

Whether you are strolling on Cape Town’s seaside promenade, on a boat trip or dining at a restaurant on the beachfront, these majestic giants are difficult to miss as they frolic along our shores.

Our package tours offer whale viewing in Hermanus and there is the option of a boat trip or guided kayaking. If you are interested in a short trip or day tour, ask us about kayaking around Cape Town.

Out of whale season in Hermanus, February to June, there is still plenty of energetic, refreshing activities and stunning sights to take in. Hermanus has numerous walking trails along the coastline and on the spectacular mountains of the Fernkloof Nature Reserve. There is also the beautiful wine estates and the luxury resort, Arabella, which overlooks the largest natural lagoon in South Africa and has a championship golf course and internationally-acclaimed spa.

Shark Activities

South Africa is an ideal setting for frequent encounters and opportunities to see the the largest predatory fish on the planet, the Great White Shark. International researchers, documentary film crews and avid shark divers visit South Africa every year to view the largest predatory fish on the planet up close.

Seal Island excursion

Rarely seen elsewhere, the Great White can be seen and even photographed (if you are quick enough with the camera) breaching out of the water in pursuit of their prey; the Cape fur seal.

The sharks are most abundant around Seal Island during the winter months.

It is a show that each year draws a large number of people from around the world to False Bay and Seal Island, just a half hour from Cape Town.

Shark Cage Diving and Boat Viewing

Our package tours inclusive of the: Great White Shark Experience are in Gans Bay / Gansbaai (known as the Great White Shark capital of the world).
The sharks are lured into approaching the boat by baiting. A strong metal shark cage is lowered into the water alongside the boat and masks and wetsuits are provided for those who wish to get up close and personal with the Great White and cage dive. No diving experience is required for this as the cage remains tethered to the boat on the surface at all times. For those who prefer the dry element then viewing the sharks from the upper deck is just as rewarding an experience. A professional videographer will document your adventure and purchasing the DVD is an option.

Seven Gill Shark Scuba Diving

If you  are a qualified scuba diver or wanting to learn to scuba dive,  we can organize an adventure and take you to swim among the seven gill cow sharks. The cow shark is a social feeder and can be observed in large groups of sometimes up to 18 individuals or more. There are very few places in the world where one can regularly see these prehistoric sharks and the Western Cape is one of them.

A PADI introduction to Scuba course can be run through our PADI qualfied instructor.
